The short answer
Notion is excellent and this page is not an argument against it. Most people reading it will keep using Notion for a dozen other things, and should.
The narrow question is whether a Notion content calendar is a content system. It is not. It is a record of content operations, and a record is only useful if the operations are happening.
If you are publishing consistently and want to track it, Notion tracks beautifully. If you are not publishing consistently, a better database will not change that, because the database is not the part that is failing.

Like most people, I started here. I built a content calendar in Notion. It was beautiful for about six weeks. Then it got unwieldy, then it got abandoned, then I rebuilt it, and then that one got abandoned too. I have done this more than twice.
The thing I eventually understood is that it did not do the work. It gave me more work to do.
Every episode meant new rows, new statuses, new links to paste in. The calendar was a second job that existed to remind me about the first job. When the week got busy, the first thing that stopped was updating the tracker. Then the tracker was lying, and then it was useless, and then I rebuilt it again with better properties, and the cycle started over.
A system that only records work is not a system. It is a to-do list with better formatting.
I still use Notion for plenty of things. I do not use it to run content anymore, because the problem was never that I lacked somewhere to write down what I should have posted.

What Notion does well
- Flexibility. You can model anything. For a workflow nobody has built a product for, that is genuinely the right answer.
- It is where your other work already lives. One workspace for notes, docs, projects and content has real value.
- Collaboration and comments. Good for teams thinking together.
- Templates and a community. Someone has already built a version of whatever you are trying to build.
- Value for what it covers. Measured against how much of your work it can hold, Notion is good value, and for a lot of people it is already in the stack.

Who should choose what
Being clear about who should not buy this is more useful than another feature.
Choose Notion if
- You publish consistently already and want a record of it
- Your workflow is unusual enough that no product fits
- You need the content calendar connected to other work in the same workspace
Choose Convia Pro if
- The calendar keeps going stale because updating it is the thing that gets dropped
- You want the content produced, not tracked
- Your content comes from conversations you record
